Animal Cancer Foundation partnered with Nationwide® pet insurance to host the inaugural Nationwide® Pet Cancer Awareness Walk throughout November-December 2020, raising nearly $90,000 in support of ACF’s mission!
More than 6,100 people from 49 states, Washington DC and US Virgin Islands participated in the virtual event, and walked a total 578,700 miles. “We’re very pleased with how many people were willing to lace up their shoes in support of ACF,” said Executive Director Barbara Cohen. “Not only were we able to raise vital operating funds, but also increase awareness of our mission with a national audience. We’ve had an incredible partnership with Nationwide® pet insurance for the past decade, and this would not have been possible without their support.”
One unique aspect of the event was a “Shelter/Rescue Champion” sponsorship by FidoCure® that enabled 12 community-based animal welfare organizations designated by Walk participants to receive cash donations. Winners were chosen at random during weekly drawings, culminating with five $500 grand prizes awarded at the conclusion of the Walk.
“We’re so grateful to FidoCure® for making it possible to send donations directly to some of the on-the-ground organizations working hard to benefit animals in need,” Cohen said. “This gift will help us to do so much for the animals in our care,” said Leah Enderle of Tails Humane Society in DeKalb, Illinois, one of the cash prize winners. “Last year alone, we cared for over 3,350 homeless animals so you can believe me when I say that ‘every dollar
counts’!”
Other Walk highlights:
- 411,288 walks recorded
- Top states: California; Texas; Florida; Illinois; Ohio
- 62 people hosted personal fundraisers
A second Walk is tentatively scheduled for November 2021.
